Great Choices of Small Cars 2013

There is no secret that increasing consumer demand for economical cars or vehicles has sparked a small car renaissance among United States automakers. Nearly five years ago, it was tough to find five entry-level small cars to recommend. If you are in market for the new economical car that does not feel small in value, the following cars should be on your preference list.

  • 2013 BMW 1-Series: With moderately priced compact cars, Audi and BMW have expanded their lineups and with the CLA Mercedes Benz will soon do the same. The Mercedes yet to come and the Audi A3 due for a redesign, so our favorite of the group is the BMW 1-Series. It’s enough with the base engine in 128i, but 300 horsepower turbocharged inline six cylinder in 135i makes it as a rocket. The 1-Series is offering most of the vaunted 3-Series handling prowess, but with a slightly lower price and a bit less refinement.
  • 2013 Buick Verano: Sometimes the brand image can hurt when small luxury cars built on an economy car platform. But with General Motor’s Buick Verano it is different. It is based on Chevrolet Cruze, which also made this list, but Verano offers quieter interior and even more refinement than Cruze. Available 250 horsepower turbocharged four cylinder engine adds muscle to natural athleticism of compact’s.
  • 2013 Chevrolet Cruze: The Cruze is the best small car from Chevrolet. It offers levels of refinement and quietness those are not just impressive for General Motors, but for the automotive market (in general). Base engine is fuel efficient, but the better choice is 1.4 liter turbocharged four cylinder. It provides better fuel economy (in the Eco trim up to 42 mpg highway) offers more torque, and quieter. Inexpensive and roomy, to the typical small midsize sedan, Cruze is an economical alternative.
  • 2013 Chevrolet Sonic: If Cruze is not the best small car then the Chevrolet has another ever built, Sonic. It is having the same engine choices as Cruze but in smaller package. Its lighter weight makes it more agile and quicker than its bigger sibling. The Sonic hatchback with the 1.4 liter engine and six speed manual transmission is sporty.
  • 2013 Dodge Dart: The Dodge Dart offers technology and refinement which we do not expect in the small car class. As a typical midsize car, it has much rear seat space. We like 1.4 liter turbocharged engine with manual transmission. But CEO of Chrysler feels that the dual clutch automated manual transmission is not right for the American audience. That will be correct with the release of forthcoming nine speed automatic transmission, which make Dart as good as any car in the class.

The other small cars that you consider of 2013 models are Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Honda Fit, Hyundai Elantra, Mazada Mazda3, Mazda MX-5 Miata, MINI Cooper, Volkswagen Jetta, Volkswagen Golf and GTI.

Auto Insurers Offers Pay-Per-Mile Car Insurance

Nowadays insurance companies throughout the United States are adapting new technology to accommodate consumer needs. Many insurers are using electronic system that allows them to monitor their customers and measure the number of miles they have driven. This insurance policy gained more popularity and which is so called ‘pay-as-you-drive’ or ‘pay-per-mile’ car insurance coverage.

Insurers are offering competitive car insurance rates based on the electronic verification of miles driven that is tracked through the GPS system in the car. This is being provided by the trackers to the insurance companies who simply plug into the diagnostic port required on cars. This technology provides fast and reliable tool for customers to compare quotes. The same technology is being used on taxi vehicles that allow insurers to create premiums based on the actual distance traveled.

This type of vehicle insurance coverage is more beneficial to those who don’t use their vehicle often or those who own multiple vehicles. The major benefit is that this plan charges you only for how much you drive. For instance, if you are keeping your driving to a minimum or drive less than 500 miles per month, then you can consider buying ‘pay-per-mile’ plan. But if you drive more than 1,000 miles per month, then you should go for longer period policy.

Thus, a driver who drives less miles a year can get high discount premium rates. However, discounts can vary widely depending on a wide range of driving habits such as

  • If you drive 10,000 or fewer miles a year
  • If you take corners and curves slowly
  • If you drive without exceeding 80 mph
  • If you drive some old model vehicle

So, before going for buying through ‘pay-as-you-drive’ plan, compare the rates and see, if it actually saves your money in the long run. Also, keep in mind, not all states are adapting this technology and for now there are only few insurance companies in some states offering this insurance coverage. As the popularity grows, more auto insurance companies are likely to adapt it. Read the rest of this post

GM Recalling All Cruz’s Over Fire Risk

After reports of engine fires, General Motors(GM) Company is calling back all its 475,000 Chevrolet Cruze compacts, from 2009 through May 31. It’s a reversal for the Detroit automaker looking to raise sales of fuel-efficient compact cars.
The recall includes 413,418 vehicles in 2011-12 Cruz’s in the United States, 61,299 in Canada, and 701 in Israel. Detroit-based GM wanted to change the engine shield, which will prevents liquids from being cornered in the engine compartment, where a fire could begin and spread.

GM spokesperson Alan Adler also said that the reason for call backing is complaints of fires in their Cruze models. The spread of fire in their vehicles is linked to improper oil changes and other fluids that were jammed in the engine. And also their automakers received 31 fire complaints on their models. However, there were no injuries, crashes or deaths have been reported in connection with the fires.

The Cruze is a primal vehicle for General Motors because it was the Detroit automaker’s best-selling car in 2011 and the second best-selling compact car in the U.S. last year. However, sales of GM slowed down when Japanese automakers have returned to the market.

According to manager of product analysis for Auto Pacific Inc., the call back is not a big issue for GM, as long as fixtures are done in a timely manner.

For NHTSA, vehicle fires are a big issue it says because, in recent years there were 184,500 vehicle fires, resulting in 285 deaths and 1,440 injuries in the U.S. in 2010. They caused about $1 billion in damage.

Like this if fire spreads in Cruz’s then sales will be down for that company. So, that’s why this company is deciding to alter of the parts in the engine which can result in a fuel-efficiency Cruz’s. Read the rest of this post

Mercedes- Benz Dealerships Top Again in Sales

Mercedes Benz is the top performing dealership brand for 2011 as reported by the Chicago Tribune study. Mercedes Benz was followed by Jaguar and Lexus. Toyota’s dealership and Chrysler attracted the mass market. They are getting good sales in US mass market.

Mercedes Benz faced a tight competition from BMW to overtake the Lexus to become a top selling luxury product in US market. Lexus lost its performance due to earth quack and tsunami in Japan that disturbed the production. The report said Low volume brands Mitsubishi motors and Suzuki motors stayed at the bottom.

According to Pied Piper PSI data, Mercedes Benz brand got the first rank from the dealers. This survey has viewed that the reduced staff at dealership is the main reason for sales reduction as it cuts the customer satisfaction. The study also said that, focusing on customer tailoring is very important. It is needed to answer the consumers questions and give the information about the product, though it takes time but improve the sales digits. The Pied Piper PSI study was conducted based on the industry given data and dealership given data.
